Steven A. Alvarado is a senior associate and trial attorney in the Rains Lucia Stern St. Phalle & Silver, PC (“RLS”) Legal Defense Practice Group. He represents peace officers, firefighters, and paramedics in criminal investigations and prosecutions, administrative investigations, disciplinary appeals, and also responds to critical incidents.
In March 2024, Steven secured a complete acquittal for Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Deputy Kevin Honea, who was facing felony perjury charges. After only four hours of deliberation, a Los Angeles jury returned a not guilty proving Honea’s innocence nearly three years after he was unjustly accused of lying on the stand during a preliminary hearing.
Prior to joining RLS, Steven worked for years as a criminal prosecutor; first, as a Deputy District Attorney in Orange County and, more recently, as a city prosecutor for the Torrance City Attorney’s Office. Throughout his various assignments, Steven became well versed in an array of criminal matters, such as juvenile crimes, assaults and batteries, domestic violence, drug offenses, driving under the influence cases, and sex crimes. Steven has extensive jury and bench trial experience and has written and argued a myriad of motions in California State courts.
Steven received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University Fullerton. While obtaining his undergraduate degree, he interned for the Office of the Governor of the State of California. Steven went on to obtain his Juris Doctor degree from Western State College of Law, graduating magna cum laude. At Western State, Steven served as the Business Editor of the Law Review.
Steven is licensed to practice in all California State courts.
