Matt is a retired Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Staff Sergeant. He served Siskiyou County for over 24 years as a Patrolman, Investigator, S.W.A.T. member, Gang Unit Supervisor, Canine Handler and Unit Coordinator, D.A.R.E. Stock Car Race Team Driver, Mounted Posse Search and Rescue Team and Deputy Sheriffs’ Association President. Matt also served as Chief of Police, under Sheriff’s contract, for the Cities of Tulelake, Dorris, Montague, Fort Jones and Dunsmuir. Matt continues as President of the Sheriff’s Posse with over 32 years of dedicated service.
After rescuing two teenage boys from a collapsed cave in the Lava Beds National Monument in 1987, Matt was awarded the prestigious Andrew Carnegie National Medal for Heroism.
Matt and his wife Debra have enjoyed 38 years of marriage and have three grown children and four grandchildren. They make their home on a hobby ranch outside of Yreka where they tend horses and enjoy gardening.
