An investigative commander who was fired from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for alleged dishonesty more than two years ago is back on the county government’s payroll.
Tracy Towner was reinstated last week as a county employee after the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Ventura issued an order Wednesday. The county wanted the court to block Towner's reinstatement until its appeal of a lower-court ruling supporting his return is decided. But a three-judge panel denied the motion without explanation.
Towner, 58, of Ventura, did not return to the job he lost in the DA's investigative unit but the county has placed him on paid leave, said his attorney, Bill Hadden.
