Robert "Bob" McFarlane is an investigator with the firm. Bob specializes in complex matters including serious criminal cases and high-profile disciplinary actions.

Bob brings a great deal of investigative experience to Rains Lucia Stern: he was an Oakland police officer for twelve years. Bob’s assignments included patrol, street narcotics enforcement, vice narcotics and the beat health unit which combated neighborhood blight by orchestrating civil actions against drug houses. Bob also served eight years in the United States Air Force as a security specialist. During his time in the military Bob had a number of missions overseas. Immediately prior to joining the firm, Bob worked in high tech and in real estate appraisal.
