The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime
pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time
workers in the private sector and in federal, state, and local governments.
Rains Lucia Stern, PC assists public safety officers
in obtaining the overtime pay and other benefits to which they are entitled
under the FLSA. RLS has established an alliance with the nationally-known
FLSA firm of Aitchison
& Vick to ensure that each of our clients receive full compensation
for all work performed. Our joint FLSA team includes Will Aitchison, who has
been representing police unions for more than 20 years and has handled numerous
FLSA lawsuits on behalf of police officers around the country, recovering millions
of dollars in damages. For more information on current cases visit http://www.aitchisonvick.com/cases.html.
RLS aggressively pursues agency compliance with all FLSA
requirements for all its law enforcement clients in California. Recently, RLS
has demanded that agencies voluntarily comply with the requirement that employees
get paid for the time spent putting on safety gear or face an immediate FLSA
lawsuit. See our newsletter from August 2006 for more information: “Getting
paid for getting dressed: FLSA defines working time to include getting in and
out of safety gear.” http://www.rlslawyers.com/pdfs/News_Bulletin_8-01-06.pdf
