RLS is hosting an exclusive symposium for our Association clients on September 16, featuring elected officials from the California State Senate, management labor attorneys, local government finance experts, PORAC, CalPERS and representatives from local government organizations. Negotiators from RLS will also offer insights into bargaining strategies to deal with the current economic and political challenges. Presentations will focus on the State Legislature’s current efforts to implement legislation to accommodate the State budget, including opportunities to pose questions to the presenters. Our keynote speaker will be the Hon. Jerry Brown, State Attorney General.
Why Attend: The State Legislature is in the process of considering legislation which will likely adversely impact every local governmental agency. Additionally, public employee pensions are under severe scrutiny and efforts may be underway to modify retirement benefits. Whether your Association is mid-contract or currently in negotiations, every Association needs to be prepared in the event the employer makes demands for concessions or insists on structural changes to current benefits.
Who Should Attend: Any member or Association leader who is interested in dealing with the employer on economic terms and conditions should attend. The Symposium will provide political, economic and legal insights essential to developing strategies to protect existing wages and benefits.
Registration: Each Association is encouraged to send representatives to attend this unique and timely Symposium. The event will be held at the Soda Center at St. Mary’s College in Moraga. Coffee and pastries will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. Presentations will be offered from 8:30 through lunch and conclude at 5:00. There is a $40.00 per person registration fee, which includes a light breakfast and lunch. Please RSVP no later than Friday, September 9.
